Prenatal Doula Visit

A Prenatal Doula Visit is a 60-minute visit with a Mahmee doula. It is offered during pregnancy. It can be virtual, in your home, or in a clinic. Prenatal Doula Visit is covered by 10 health plans.

A visit with a Mahmee doula during pregnancy to get to know each other, talk about what you need, and make a plan for your support.

What happens in this visit

  1. Your doula gets to know you, your pregnancy, your support system, and what matters most to you.
  2. You talk about your hopes for birth and any worries or questions you have.
  3. Your doula explains what a doula does and does not do, and answers your questions.
  4. Depending on where you are in pregnancy, you go over topics like the stages of labor, your birth preferences, comfort options, and planning for after birth.
  5. Your doula can show you comfort techniques like breathing, positions, and relaxation, in person or over video, and you can practice them together.
  6. You finish with a plan for your support and your next steps.

Who it is for

For you if you are pregnant, whether this is your first baby or you have given birth before, and whether or not you know anything about birth yet. Your doula supports you alongside your doctor or midwife and does not replace them.

What to have ready

  • Your health details and your questions for this visit, finished in your Mahmee account before the visit.
  • Any questions you want to ask, including questions for your doula about their experience.
  • A partner or support person, if you want one there. It is your choice.
  • Notes from your doctor or midwife, if you have them. They can help, and they are not required.
  • For a virtual visit, a phone or computer with a steady internet connection.

After the visit

You can see your care plan and book your next visits in your Mahmee account when you are ready. If your care includes birth support, you choose your birth doula from your Mahmee team on your appointments page, and you can change your choice later.

How it works

  1. Choose your plan.
  2. We check your coverage before anything is booked.
  3. Pick a time with your doula.
